Town's U18s will take a 2-0 lead into Wednesday's FA Youth Cup semi-final second leg after the first game at Portman Road. Midfielder Liam Trotter put the Blues in front in the first half and Irish U19 international striker Billy Clarke added the second after the break.

Town's U18s beat Portsmouth 3-2 in extra time on Monday night to progress to the fourth round of the FA Youth Cup. Goals from James Krause, Billy Clarke and Danny Haynes ensured an away tie at either Manchester United or Stoke City.

Town lost their first game of 2004/05 3-2 at George Burley's Derby County despite being 2-1 up at the break. A penalty from Tommy Miller and a second from Dean Bowditch a minute later had put the Blues in front but goals from Marco Reich (2) and Inigo Idiakez won the game for the Rams.

Town moved up to fourth in Division One as they put in their best performance of the season to beat Sunderland 1-0 at Portman Road. Tommy Miller scored from the spot in first half injury time, after Black Cats' keeper Thomas Myhre had pulled down Darren Bent.

A disappointing defensive performance from Town condemned them to their second home defeat of the season, Gillingham running out 4-3 winners. The Blues were never in front but levelled at 1-1 and 3-3, through Westlake, Couñago and Miller, Gills' sub Mark Saunders winning the three points late on.

Suffolk-born defender Matthew Upson has joined the England squad ahead of Wednesday's international against Croatia at Portman Road. The Birmingham player is the second Suffolk representative in Sven-Goran Eriksson's party, alongside Kieron Dyer.

Town coach Willie Donachie has been awarded a UEFA Pro-Licence at a ceremony at Warwick University. Donachie joined Town as assistant to Joe Royle in October last year.

Town will feel they deserved at least a point from a rip-roaring thriller which ended 4-3 to Forest. The Blues were 2-0 up, then 3-2 down before equalising and looked the likelier side to take the three points until former loanee Marlon Harewood popped up with a 74th minute winner.

Town will rue the failure to take several first half chances and a second half missed Darren Bent penalty as Brighton took a point back to Sussex. The Blues went ahead in the first half through Marcus Bent but Brighton improved after the break and Tony Rougier scored twice before Martijn Reuser put Town back on terms.
